MEET DR. J.R. BULLARD - SSWAA'S PD COORDINATOR

Dr. J.R. Bullard received his Doctor of Social Work (DSW) degree from Walden University with a specialization in Family Studies and Intervention in 2020 and his Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Tulane University in 2013. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Board Approved Clinical Supervisor (LCSW-BACS) through the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners (LABSWE).

He has worked in various PreK, elementary, middle, and high school settings across the Greater New Orleans region where he has worked with Tulane University and the New Orleans Department of Health to help promote, create, educate, and facilitate trauma-informed and trauma-sensitive learning environments to remove barriers of for all children to access education equally to their peers regardless of age, race, socioeconomic status, ability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and/or diverse grief and trauma histories. Specializing in special education and positive behavior interventions and supports, Dr. Bullard has worked tirelessly to always leave school environments better than when he got there.

He is also a dedicated Contributing Faculty Member at the Dr. Barbara Solomon School of Social Work at Walden University where he teaches, empowers, and helps create classes for all MSW students in an effort to promote positive social change and forward on our wonderful profession to the next great leaders in Social Work! Dr. Bullard’s passions include working with LGBTQ+ children and their families, grief and trauma, PTSD, educating MSW students, supervising LMSWs seeking licensure, and providing training on the importance of self-care for all helping professionals! He continuously strives to be a Teacher and a Student, never to be an “expert” because when we become “experts” we stop learning. His Motto: “If no one has told you yet today… Good morning! You belong here, you are appreciated, you are valued, thank you for being you! You Matter!”

Having a strong professional development coordinator is crucial for creating effective programs and providing support. Just like a well-designed wall menu in a restaurant, which clearly outlines options and helps customers make informed decisions, Dr. Bullard’s guidance helps educators and social workers navigate their own growth paths. It’s all about clarity and presenting the right opportunities in an organized way. I’m sure his approach and leadership style will make a positive impact on everyone involved in SSWAA’s programs. Looking forward to seeing his influence grow!
