SSwaa's position paper on Role of Law Enforcement in Schools from a Racial Justice Lens

The recent and repeated incidents of police brutality in the United States is a major public health problem which is shedding light on the longstanding impact of systemic oppression and racial injustices that are pervasive in our society. Given the immense harm inflicted on individuals and groups of color via prejudice, discrimination and oppression, our nation is at a turning point where individuals are called to evaluate the systems, practices and policies that perpetuate racial trauma and suffering, as well as engage in efforts to disrupt and dismantle systemic oppression.

Given the urgency and fluid nature of these times, with the increasing and disparaging impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as long standing unaddressed racial inequities have been felt across the United States, how we think and respond to the overarching economic, psychological and racial disparities is critical.

Sswaa response to covid-19 and the role of school social workers

As members of the SSWAA Board of Directors, we acknowledge the urgency and fluid nature of these times, with the increasing impacts of the COVID-19 virus being felt all around the country and the world.

SSwaa's position paper on solidarity with black lives

As a profession guided by our ethical values of honoring the dignity and worth of every person and the need to challenge social injustices, the School Social Work Association of America is outraged by the traumatic and recent deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd as well as the threat to Christan Cooper’s life.
