As discussed in the most recent SSWAA E-Bell the Senate is currently debating the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), otherwise known as the No Child Left Behind Act. We need your HELP on this bill right now. We have the opportunity to ensure greater access to critical student support services and resources.
The Kirk / Reed amendment expands the federal "opportunity dashboard" that would identify resource gaps and hold states accountable for providing meaningful opportunity for all students to learn. This should allow students to get the same opportunities – advanced classes, music, libraries, and qualified and critical service providers like School Social Workers – no matter what ZIP code they live in.
Senator Brown’s Community Schools Amendment would establish a full-service community schools grant program to the Every Child Achieves Act. Community schools improve student achievement and strengthen family and community engagement.
All students should attend schools with inviting classrooms, a well-rounded curricula, and the support services they need in a safe, healthy and positive school environment.
Whether you are a SSWAA member or not, we need your help pushing these amendments forward. Will you call your senator right now? Call 1-866-331-7233 FREE to be connected.
HINT: When you call and would like to skip the message about these amendments, just enter your zip code at any time to immediately access options for your senators. When connected to your senator's office, you can say: "Hi, my name is ................. from ................... I am a school social worker or (member of the School Social Work Association of America) and would like to encourage Senator................ to support the Kirk/Reed Amendment as well as the Brown Community Schools Amendment to ESEA." They will then ask for your zip code and you are done! It's as easy as that!!!
Thank you for Taking Action!
