NBC News Parent Toolkit
Share |

NBC News has shared with SSWAA a new resource for parents.  A team at NBC News has spent the past year building out a new digital resource for parents called the Parent Toolkit. The resource exists as both a free website and mobile app and works to engage parents in the overall development of their children. It features grade-by-grade information about a child’s academic development, social & emotional growth and heath & wellness. On March 16, NBC also officially unveiled the results of their ‘State of Parenting’ poll. The poll, sponsored by Pearson, provides insight into today’s parents and offers a compelling narrative about America’s families.  Check it out and add the Parent Toolkit link to your resource database.

Monthly Twitter Chats

The NBC News team has hosted a monthly Twitter Chat to highlight various issues and topics in the education and parenting space. Past conversations have covered everything from setting kids for school success, to talking to kids about drugs and raising socially responsible children.

June: How to Support LGBT Students

June is pride month and we will be chatting about how to support LGBT students. The questions are still being finalized but we anticipate the conversation covering age-appropriate ways for parents to talk to kids about LGBT issues, how a parent can show their support if a child comes out to them, and how to combat bullying. This chat is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16 at 7pm EST.
