The School Social Work Association of America continues to need the active involvement and hard work of excellent leadership as we grow as an association in serving the increasing needs of our members and affiliate states.   Here's your chance to help shape the future of SSWAA and our profession.      

Board Positions Open for Nomination and Election

President:  (2 year term of office)  Even

• Must be a SSWAA member for at least 36 months prior to nomination.
• Must have at least 5 years of experience working in the field of School Social Work.
• Must have demonstrate leadership experience with a School Social Work organization at the State, Regional, and/or National level.

President Elect:  (1 year term, followed by 2 year term as President)  Even

Must be a SSWAA member for at least 36 months prior to nomination.
• Must have at least 5 years of experience working in the field of School Social Work.
• Must have demonstrate leadership experience with a School Social Work organization at the State, Regional, and/or National level.

Past President:  (1 year term)

• Must be a SSWAA member in good standing
• Must have been President of SSWAA in previous year

Members at Large (4 Regional Representatives):  (2 year term)

Must live or work in the designated SSWAA geographical Region for which they are running. (Northeastern, Midwest, Southern, Western)

NorthEastern Regional Representative:    (2 year term)  Even

Northeast: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire,
New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, the District of Columbia and
DOD schools

Midwest Regional Representative:   (2 year term)  Even

Midwest:  Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri,  Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin

• Must be a SSWAA member in good standing for at least twelve (12) months prior to nomination
• Must have demonstrated leadership in professional or volunteer activities
• Must have at least (2) years experience as a school social worker
• Must have been employed or be eligible to be employed as a school social worker in the in the state of residence (including retirees, administrators, faculty and state consultants).

Representative for Professional Standards and Practice:  (2 year term)  Even

• Must be a SSWAA member for at least 24 months at the time of nomination
• Must have knowledge of local, state and nations school social work standards
• Must have knowledge of professional practice issues
• Standards and Practice representative will serve as Board liaison to both members and State Affiliates and will solicit input on practice issues, form committees to work on position papers, and provide input and information on school social work standards.

Qualification Criteria

The Board has developed guidelines to assist the Nomination Committee in the application and selection process for the SSWAA Board of Directors.  Please review Qualification Criteria closely. 

Additional Expectations:

>  Willingness to work/respond via email and telephone/computer conference-call as required by committee business and SSWAA organizational issues.
>  Commitment to be an active participant in at least one SSWAA board committee as requested by the President
>  Attendance at 2 - 4 SSWAA board meetings per year depending on schedule/budget:

Winter (January)           Friday afternoon through Sunday morning
Spring (March/April)     National Conference attendance and meeting (4 - 5 nights)
Summer (July)              Washington DC Leadership/Legislative Institute and meeting  (Saturday through Wednesday afternoon)
Fall (October)               Friday afternoon through Sunday morning

Board Application and Election Time Line:

September 1:          Nominations Open/Applications available on website
October 15 :            Nominations close
October 16 - 29:       Nomination Committee reviews applications
October  30:            Slate of Candidates presented to SSWAA President
November 1:            Start Election of Board Candidates
November 22:           End Election
November 23:           SSWAA Nominations Committee Chair receives final vote tally.
November 24:           Nominations Committee Chair presents written report of election results to President **
November 25:           SSWAA President notifies candidates of election results. 

Elected Board Candidates take office in January 1, 2014

 

*Note:  A confirmation email will be sent when the Nominations Committee receives an application. If you do not receive a confirmation email within 3 days of submission, please contact the committee chairperson.

**Note:  If the SSWAA President is unable to review the slate for any reason, Robert's Rules of Order identifies the SSWAA Secretary as the officer that will review the slate.
