Resolution Honoring School Social Workers

113th Congress  House Resolution submitted February 21, 2014 by Representative Gwen Moore, (D-WI)

Request for Additional Co-Sponsors:

Dear Colleague,

To honor the essential role that school social workers play in student success, I am introducing a resolution designating the week beginning March 2nd as “School Social Work Week.”

School social workers help to remove barriers to positive outcomes for children and youth, and establish working relationships between schools, families, and communities. They are specially trained to focus on the non-academic factors beyond the classroom that influence learning, including family and community factors. They offer a range of services for students facing these challenges, including improving the climate for learning, crisis intervention, mental health services, counseling, and addressing student truancy, and they provide direct assistance for students with and without disabilities.

School social workers improve the educational outcomes of students in need, lending the critical supports to help them reach their full potential. To sign on as a cosponsor of this resolution honoring our nation’s school social workers, please contact Steffany Stern on my staff at .
