Randy A. Fisher Lifetime Achievement Award
The Randy A. Fisher Lifetime Achievement Award has been established to honor the work Randy Fisher. who was selected the first Executive Director of SSWAA and served from 2001-2006. Randy led our organization during its fledgling years and witnessed a tremendous growth in membership. During his final year as Executive Director, SSWAA had over 3,300 members -- quite an accomplishment for an organization that only began in 1994! The award will continue to be given in his honor at subsequent conferences. His spirit and passion for School Social Work will live on for many years to come.
2013 Awardee: Marianne Pennekamp
March 22, 2013
This year's Randy A. Fisher Lifetime Achievement Award recipient is Marianne Pennekamp from California. Howard Blonsky and Steve Manos presented the award to her for over 60 years of service as a School Social Worker and Social Work educator, collaborator, organizer, advocate, and mentor (and much more). A “powerhouse of a lady,” certainly the godmother of School Social Work in California, and one of the founders and past presidents of the California Association of School Social Workers (CASSW). Always humble, in a recent CASSW Board meeting, Marianne said she “stands on the shoulders of others.” The group at that meeting represented 65 years of CASSW, bookended by past presidents and board members, and current MSW students. "I am grateful for all those who have led... before, are leaders now, and will lead in the future." Thank you Marianne for allowing us to stand on the shoulders of a giant in our profession!
