The School Social Work Association of America (SSWAA) is pleased to offer a FREE webinar series to members on research topics related to school social work. The third of the 2012-2013 series will be offered on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 from 12:00-1:30 CST pm. The topic and learning objectives are as follows:
Using Motivational Interviewing in School Settings
1) Participants will learn the core philosophy of and activities in Motivational Interviewing interventions.
2) Participants will learn about applications of MI in school settings.
3) Participants will learn about additional resources for training to competency in MI.
Speaker: Doug Smith
Doug Smith is Assistant Professor of Social Work at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His area of expertise is using motivational interviewing with adolescents and young adults with substance use problems. He has served on the editorial boards of Research on Social Work Practice and Social Work, and was the 2012 winner of the Deborah K. Padgett Early Career Achievement Award given by the Society of Social Work and Research. He is currently implementing a study of how MI works with youth attending alternative secondary schools.
Presentation will be from 12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m. CST. Questions will be from 1:00 p.m. -1:30 pm CST. Please post all questions in the chat section of the webinar site. Dr. Michelle Alvarez will read the questions during the Q & A time and the speaker will answer them.

How to Participate:
The Webinar will use Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro which requires the Flash Player browser plugin, version 22.214.171.124 or above. Participants must FIRST install the Flash Player by going to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and download the free version.
The webinar will be audio only so headphones are recommended though not mandatory. No microphone is necessary, as participants will post questions on the chat section of the webinar site. Adobe Connect will allow for 100 participants. The link will open at 11:30 CST, one half hour before the presentation. In order to receive CEUs, complete Webinar Evaluation Form and submit to Michelle Alvarez.
1.5 CEUs will be available FREE of charge to SSWAA members who participate in this webinar. Note you must complete the Webinar Evaluation Form (same as above) in order to receive CEUs.
A CEU certificate will be emailed to you from Minnesota State University, Mankato within 3 weeks of completing the webinar and filling out the CEU form.
