Strip-search Violated Eighth-grader's Constitutional Rights

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

The assistant principal of an Arizona middle school violated the rights of a 13-year-old honor student by demanding two female employees strip-search her for prescription-strength ibuprofen on an unverified report from a classmate that she had some, a federal appeals court has ruled. The student was not carrying the medication. The search was "disproportionately extreme," wrote U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Kim McLane Wardlaw for the majority in the 6-5 ruling.
