18th National School Social Work Conferencesm

The 18th National School Social Work Conferencesm was held in the musical city of Nashville, Tennessee!   We were energized to have our Opening Keynote Speaker, Tara Brown, addressing "Survive and Thrive: Unleashing the Potential of Under-resourced Youth”; Myrna Mandlawitz, Esq, Libby Nealis and Doug Spohn (SSWAA Government Relations Team address "All Aboard for Washington" and our Closing Keynote Speaker, Dr. Andy Frey present on “Coaching in Schools: Implementation Fidelity is Rocket Science”.   Armed with new strategies, insights, research based findings, materials, curriculum and resources; school social workers returned to their schools re-energized to address the many barriers to students’ learning and educational success.   Again If you weren’t able to join us, don’t miss out next year. The 17th National School Social Work Conferencesm was held in the windy city of Chicago where the weather changed daily!  We were thrilled to have Dr. Charles Payne as our Opening Keynote speaker  addressing "Urban School Reform: Going at the Thing Backward” and Annette Johnson as our inspiring Closing Keynote Speaker addressing: “The School Social Worker at the table: Advancing: Social and Emotional Learning through Collaborations and Partnerships”.  Armed with new strategies, insights, research based findings, materials, curriculums and resources; school social workers returned to their schools re-energized to address the many barriers to students’ learning.   Again If you weren’t able to join us, don’t miss out next year. 16th National School Social Work Conferencesm

The 16th National School Social Work Conferencesm was held in sunny San Diego. Numerous opportunities were provided to network, share experiences, and learn from each other.   Our entertaining and energizing Opening Keynote Speaker, Dr. Michael Pritchard, started the event with his address: “T.E.A.M. Together Everyone and Anyone Matters”.  It was hard to keep up with his many wonderful empowering one-liners.  Attendees chose from over 90 opportunities for professional development .  for We were extremely pleased to have Dr. Marlene Wong from the University of Southern California present our Closing Keynote on the important topic:    “Trauma Informed Schools: The Role of School Social Work”.       See more below.

15th National School Social Work Conferencesm

March 28, 2012 - Saturday, March 31, 2012 -- Boston Park Plaza Hotel and Towers, Boston, MA

The School Social Work Association of America was proud to present the 2012 National School Social Work Conferencesm in Boston.  We were thrilled to have Dr. George Sugai, Co-Director of the OSEP Center for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports as our Opening Keynote speaker.  Our Closing Keynote was presented by Dr. James Herbert Williams from the University of Denver: “Addressing the Challenges Affecting African Americans’ Academic Achievement”.  Myrna Mandlawitz, SSWAA Governmental Relations, addressed the current legislative issues impacting school social workers.  Pre-Conference presenters included Dr. Ross Greene from Harvard University and author of The Explosive Child and Lost at School.   See details. 

14th National School Social Work Conferencesm

March 30 - April 2, 2011 -- Kingston Plantation,  Myrtle Beach, SC

The School Social Work Association of America recently held its 14th National Conference in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina from March 28-April 2, 2011. The Conference was attended by over 483 school social workers and colleagues from throughout the 50 states, US territories and 4 foreign countries. Over 56 general workshops and poster sessions were presented as well as 6 pre-conference workshops. In addition, the SSWAA Board of Directors held its annual membership meeting and the first ever Delegate Assembly. There were also opportunities for specialty group meetings such as university educators and geographic regions. The next SSWAA National Conference is scheduled for March 28-31, 2012 at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts.   See details on brochure, speakers, etc. 

2010 National School Social Work Conferencesm

April 8 - 10, 2010 -- Union Station Marriott, St. Louis, MO

The 2010 SSWAA School Social Work Conferencesm was attended by 500 School Social Workers from around the country and also included participants from Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia. The Keynote speakers were well received and the breakout sessions had great reviews from participants. SSWAA will post electronic presentations below, from speakers as they are made available. If you were with us in St. Louis, you know how collegial this conference felt and we hope you can review these sessions as needed in the future. We will be in Myrtle Beach SC in March of 2011 and hope you will consider joining your School Social Work Colleagues “at the beach” in 2011!   See details on brochure, speakers, handouts, etc.
